The past week, I had the opportunity to go capital of United States of America. Some of you might not know this, but Washington D.C. is not in Washington State, it’s actually in the state of Virginia. Anyways, getting back on topic, I went to Washington D.C. on a trip from the D.A. office. Now if you’ve been reading my blog long enough, you’d know that I go to the District Attorneys office every month for a meeting. This month we had a trip, which I went on. It was not the best of the trips, but it wasn’t all bad. I actually enjoyed the office building site seeing.

My day started with me waking up at 4 in the morning to take a shower and shave. Boy does one and a half hour seem long. Generally, I’m used to waking up at five-thirty for school. By about 4:45, my father and I leave the house. I decided to wear a light jacket and it was a little cold outside, but it wasn’t that bad. I reached there, we waited for sometime for the person (the advisor) to come and blah blah, my dad left, we got on the bus yada yada. The journey starts. By luck (if you want to call it that), I sat right in front of a mounted T.V. and behind these two people who were cool. Even though they were from a different high school (even rivals in wrestling), we pretty much clicked. My partner decided not to come, so I had the seat next to me empty. Sweet God, that was a treat. I had all that space to myself. When we started, it was 6 in the morning. We decided as a group that we would sleep. Apparently I wasn’t the only one regretting waking up so early in the morning for this trip. But then again, there are always some party poopers. This guy and girl decided to start cracking jokes and talking. SIX IN THE MORNING. Maybe it was just me, but they were too loud and annoying, thus leading to the fact that I woke up around 7:30. Now this was supposed to be a 5 hour trip, which it was, let me tell you. I wake up, I look around. We’ve left New York, and we’re somewhere (Delaware I believe). The scenery wasn’t all that bad. The first picture which you see is actually from somewhere there. Even though the picture really doesn’t show much, it still helps I guess. The third picture with the bridge is also from somewhere near. I really couldn’t find anything to click pictures of, so I took what I had. The whole time, I was thinking about life. That was until they started showing Batman Begins on T.V. Let’s just say that the rest of the trip was pretty much me watching the movie.
. But I actually saw some really interesting stuff. You know how they show the red barn with the white lines crossing it. I actually saw one of those things. It was interesting, I would have never guessed to see such things on the way to D.C.
The scenery was not that bad, but it could have been better. We enter D.C. and the first thing we see is traffic. There was a lot of traffic in D.C., its somewhat like New Delhi, but much much better. The main purpose of our trip was to actually see a real live case of the Supreme Court. Since we had times till the case started, we went to the National Bureau of Engraving and Printing. I saw how the mighty U.S. Dollar was made. It was actually very interesting. They did not allow pictures of the machines used, obviously for security purposes, but I clicked a few pictures. We then went to the capitol building. Just behind that is the Supreme Court, so we walked there. I like the Capitol Building, but honestly, I thought it would be a little better kept. Maybe movies made me have high expectations, but there was snow all around, and when snow gets dirty, its gets pretty ugly. But then again, they have better things to do. When I reached the Supreme Court I was impressed, and a little sad too. They told us that we could not go see the case because 1) We were late
2) Apparently these cases are booked 10 years in advance, so we could not get entry even if we were on time. Who would have known that people book cases they don’t even know will exist just to see Supreme court in action.
Luckily, we did get a tour of how the seating arrangement and court is. It was pretty interesting, and let me tell you, it’s a really beautiful courtroom. I mean it’s really good. Sorry couldn’t click pictures inside.
This year I’m taking a American History course. My teacher is always talking about how John Marshal was considered so important to the court, and how they idealized him since he was the one who gave Supreme Court so much power. In class you never really realized the importance of anything or the effect of it. But when in person you see so many statues of him, and how they portray him, you link it back to everything your teacher said. So this in a way was a really good experience in a sense. I clicked a few pictures of him, just as a tribute to my AP American teacher and her class.
After the Supreme court, we went around in our bus seeing places. We saw the Washington Memorial, and the WHITE HOUSE. I was a little disappointed in the White House. I guess in movies and everything, they make it look really good and everything. Up close, it isn’t really a big deal. I mean, it is a big symbol, since the president of the U.S. lives inside it, but architecturally speaking, it’s not that great. I actually would prefer to see the different offices in D.C. than to see the White House. By this time, most of us were starving. Everyone had decided that we would go to a buffet on the way back home. So it had finally come, the journey home. No matter what you say, I’m pretty proud of being a New Yorker. It feels good to be in New York. We were pretty tired, and I had a headache, so I decided to go to sleep. By the time I woke up, we were at the buffet.
Since this was like, the best part of the trip, I thought it needed a new paragraph. The buffet cost me 11 dollars btw. But it was so totally worth it. Due to the fact that I’m vegetarian, it’s really hard for me to eat in public places sometimes, as was in this case. All I could pretty much eat were salads and deserts, which if you look at it in a way, balance each other out. Salad – healthy, Desert – fatty. They both cancel out don’t they? The salad wasn’t all that great, but the desert was to die for. There was hot fudge chocolate cake. Trust me; I can eat that thing all day long. OH MY GOD, IT WAS DELICIOUS. It was finger licking good. The whole time, I was sitting with the other kids I was talking about earlier. What made the hot fudge chocolate cake better; yes I have to say the whole thing, its more dramatic, is that one of the kids was on a diet since he wanted to body build. Now here I was eating this good hot fudge chocolate cake and there he is tempted like crazy, waiting for mine to finish so that he can get over it. But what do I do, I go and tease him, bringing the food near his face, his eyes, making him jealous and making the most outrageous noise of satisfaction ever. Yup, good times.
On the way back, still in the bus, the girl from Bryant High School got hyper due to the amount of sugar in that hot fudge chocolate cake. We started screwing around with the camera that took about half an hour out of the 4 hours remaining. After the sugar rush subsided, we pretty much got quite, and every one of us just went into their own little world. Here I was, sitting on the seat, looking out the bus and thinking about life again; only difference this time was that it was dark outside and I really couldn’t see anything. Somehow hours passed by, and we were at the D.A. office.
Now I still have to go home, but apparently I got lost in the way because I couldn’t find the bus stop and coincidently my phone battery was left with 1 bar. Luckily, with my super duper navigation skills (and my dad helping step by step on the phone, which worked) I found the bus stop and got home.
Let me just say, it was a good experience; I think traveling to different places always is. But my back hurt the next day though. Those bus seats are not comfortable enough.
If you don’t want to read the whole thing (which you should btw, coz It took time to write it) you can always just check out the pictures, they should sum it all up.
