The reason people watch TV Soap Operas is basically very similar to the reason why people enjoy books or movies. They don’t really find a parallel between what’s happening on screen and what’s happening in their lives. Instead, they find something out of the ordinary. They find drama. They see the out-of-ordinary things that make life interesting, but when you watch them in soaps, it’s a harmless way of adding this sensationalism into your life… you don’t have to go through these utterly dramatic experiences like affairs, murders, etc in real life… watching soaps puts them in your life passively.
Other reasons people get addicted to comics or tv shows, etc. is purely for simple entertainment purposes. For example… I love The Simpsons, but there’s no chance in hell that anything that happens to that family could ever happen to a real family.

indeed comic strip might not be a Soap Opera, but it has all the characteristics of one. However, it doesn’t make people watching soap operas stupid. Soap Opera can be watched and instead of reading comics, people can just relax and conserve energy by simply stare at the tv instead of reading and concentrating pictures and tiny words inscribed in a bubble thingy. People who watch soap operas are not lazy and stupid but instead, wise and efficient ![]()

@ Gurdit: I know that people watch Soap Operas for the excitement, and I was going to write that too. But I think its still the parallelism, that makes some attracted to Soap Operas. With literature, and such, its because we can relate to the stuff going on in the book/movie is why we’re interested. If we could make no sense of it, then we lose interest.
@ JACKY PShh.. wise and efficient.. sure!!
